Oldsmobile was an American brand of automobile produced for most of its existence by General Motors. It was founded by Ransom E. Olds and made cars in the United States from 1897 to 2004. When it was phased out, Oldsmobile was the oldest surviving American automobile marque, and one of the oldest in the world, after Daimler and Peugeot. In their early years, Oldsmobile was well known for their technological advancements and were credited for creating cars with the first: speedometers, chrome plating, V8 engines, automatic transmissions, turbochargers, driver's side airbags, and navigation systems.
